The Land Rover defender cost is a high-tech, off-road SUV with some of the best safety ratings in its class. It also offers a comfortable ride and plenty of room for five or seven adults, with an available two-row third row.
How much does a Defender cost?
Prices start at about $53,400 for the four-door Defender 110 and $54,000 for the short-wheelbase two-door Defender 90. A long-wheelbase two-door 130 model starts at $68,000.
Price versus competitors
The Defender is not cheap, but it can compete against domestic luxury SUVs like the Jeep Wrangler and Ford Bronco when you’re on the trail. It’s a great value for those who want an off-roader with the latest technology and comfort, but it can’t match the starting price of the BMW X5 or Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
Safety and features
Standard features include forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, driver inattention warning, a 360-degree parking camera and wade sensing (basically a sonar system that can tell you how deep water is). The base engine is a turbocharged, 2.0-liter, inline-four that puts out a respectable 296 horsepower and 395 lb-ft of torque. A 3.0-liter, inline-six is available, as well as a 5.0-liter V8 with 518 hp and 461 lb-ft of torque. For the more adventurous, you can opt for a diesel model with 300 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque.
